Diet programs and exercise routines are often not enough to fight obesity. As obesity continues to be a national health problem in the United States, gastric bypass surgery remains one of the most frequently performed weight loss operations, with approximately 140,000 surgeries performed each year.
Like all surgical procedures, gastric bypass surgery comes with risks, but it also has its advantages. Your weight loss surgeon can discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure and give you more information, so you can fully understand the procedure and make sure you make a good candidate. If you are considering gastric bypass surgery, here are some key benefits:
1. Increased lifespan
Recent research at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire showed that gastric bypass surgery can help patients take excess weight off and increase life expenctancy by 2-3 years.
2. Continuous weight loss
Most bariatric surgery patients dramatically lose weight right after their surgery and experience long-term weight loss well after the procedure.
3. Boost of confidence and self-esteem
Weight loss can improve body image and give a person a positive self-concept. This can lead to a heightened self-image and may prompt a change in exercising and dieting.
4. Lowered risk of Diabetes
Patients with high blood sugar levels who undergo gastric bypass surgery typically return to normal.
5. Reduced occurrences of sleep apnea
Sleep disturbances, breathing problems and nightly discomfort can cause of fatigue and anxiety. Sleep disorders related to obesity can be improved with excessive weight loss.
6. Better joint function
Excessive weight can cause stress on the joins and create bone damage. A healthy weight after gastric bypass surgery can keep the body strong.
7. A way to lose weight when there are no other means
Gastric bypass surgery is a solution for treating morbid obesity, when dieting and exercising don’t make a difference. It reduces health risks and complications and gives patients a chance to manage their weight for the long-term.
Before deciding to have gastric bypass surgery, it is important to learn about the procedure in its entirety. There are different methods and techniques to the procedure and the best way to learn more is to do your own homework and consult a Board-Certified Surgeon in your area. Your surgeon can advise you on all your options and relate them to your goals, so that you will live a healthy, happy life in your new body.

Ok.
For the past 3-4 days, I’ve been having a lot of acidity (after eating a meal, at night especially, i’ve felt way too full ) Also, I haveb een belching quite a bit.
Today I went to the clinic, and was given omeprazole to take 1x daily and was told to take panadol for my slight fever (its about 37.4) Doctor told me it seemed like an infection fo some kind either cold and flu or gastric that was causing the infection.
I’m supposed to travel in 3 days to go home- do you reckon this will be ok if i contiue the treatment and keep eating the right food (bland stuff)?

My boyfriend is suffering from gastric, is it serious? I’m really worried, and since I live far away from him, there’s nothing I can do. Can someone give me tips or remedies to help him ease the pain or hurry the recovery process? I love him very much and he is very careless when it comes to his health, help appreciated in advance. Thank you all for your answers.

First of all i am sorry to bother everyone with this. I might seem a bit paranoid but we have tried to have a baby for 3 years. i had gastric bypass lost alot of weight and got pregnant right away. I will be 14 weeks tomorrow. At 5 weeks i had gushing blood and was diagnosed with subchronic hematoma, i spotted for 2 weeks and since then everything has been fine. Lately i have been so worried about birth defects, my aunt had a baby with anecephaly a week before i was born. After this weeks ultrasound my dr. said that she cant say 100% because of the poor quality machine she was using but she is pretty sure that the baby does not have anecephaly. When i got home i was looking at the ultrasound picture, and my babies head looks abnormaly large to me? Does anyone else think so? We really just want this baby, sorry if i seem a bit paranoid.
Also my baby always seems to have a fuzzy looking pillow behind its head in the pictures anyone know what this is?

Thank you so much for taking the time to look!
Also, i have had around 9 ultrasounds, since i had the gushing blood, she always checks the h/b but hasnt done a CRL since 9 weeks. The h/b is always good. This picture was done with the poorest quality ultrasound machine they had because the others where being used. My husband is military so i have my appts. on base and its busy there. I am just so worried abut eveything. this baby means so much to us. I also relized that the picture is zoomed in x 2. it says so at the top of it.
you linked me mine lol.
Is the fuzzy stuff normal? i usualy only see it around the body and head especialy. at 9 weeks i seen it all around the head like in my 13 week one. it makes it difficult to tell what is and isnt the head.
I have more pictures of the baby on facebook. jesickag_drugfree@yahoo.com
Melly, if you happen to see this again link me your picture, you accidently linked me back my own.

I am a year post op and I’m afraid I have completely undone my surgery. I will still get full fast but I don’t know if I have ruined the pouch. Have I?

At 6 weeks past surgery, I can keep down cottage cheese, smooth Campbell’s pea soup, tofu, shrimp, crab, tuna, skim milk, tea, tomato juice, chicken broth, Progresso onion soup with the onion pieces strained out, food-processed chicken and turkey and vegetables, and various canned protein drinks, though the yuck factor of the protein drinks is high. (Would eat eggs but am allergic.) I have trouble consuming 60 grams of protein a day from my limited list. Packaged bariatric foods seem very expensive and full of chemicals, and some provoke allergic symptoms.
What foods have worked for you at this stage and later?
Thanks in advance to all who respond.
